Message from Joan Carling on the International Women’s Day

Greetings of peace and solidarity!

I am Joan Carling, an indigenous human rights and environmental defender from the Philippines, working with the Indigenous Peoples Rights International and a Board member of the Lands Right Now.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, let us honor and be inspired by the unwavering courage and profound sacrifices of Indigenous women who defender our land in the midst of violence, threats and systemic discrimination.

For Indigenous women, land is part of our identity and culture, it is at the core of our existence as Indigenous Peoples. We nurture the land, so future generations can continue to live in harmony with nature.

Instead of violence and discrimination, Indigenous women deserve to be recognized, respected and protected as indispensable actors, equal partners, decision makers and leaders in advancing real solutions to save the planet.
